John Bryson, the US commerce secretary resigns
It is Sangma Vs Pranab
It is Sangma vs Pranab Mukerji. Finally the contest for the Indian President is between Sangma, a tribal candidate hailing from the North East and Pranab Mukerji, the congress sponsored candidate.
While UPA has chosen Pranab without any hassle, NDA and its allies had some problems in choosing Sangma as their candidate.
Both UPA and NDA and their allies have their own internal problems in supporting their respective candidates.
While the UPA allies TMC and SP have their own choice for a presidential candidate for the post of President, NDA's allies Shiv Sena, Akal Dal have their independent choice for voting.
Hence, it will be a keen contest between Pranab Mukerji and Sangma.Let us wait and see.

The Race for a New President in the Indian Politics.
The Race for a New President in the Indian Politics.
Despite the fact that the Indian President is only a puppet or a rubber stamp, the aura or the fuss surrounding the election of the Indian President is not surprising. While the UPA chairperson Mrs.Sonia Gandhi has announced Mr.Pranab Mukerji, the sitting member of cabinet and the finance minister of India as their candidate, surprisingly UPA's allies the TMC and the SP have expressed reservations and desired to nominate their own candidate for the new president.
They propose former president Abdul Kalam as their candidate.Their dissent is a welcome change and is not without substance.
It is an accepted fact that the Indian President is above politics and he should always remain neutral and forthright in his views.Despite his limited powers, the Indian President remains the titular constitutional head of the Indian Government and the head of the three wings of the army, navy and the air force. He enjoys a higher protocol abroad than the powerful Indian Prime Minister. It is he who convenes and addresses the joint session of the Indian parliament. Therefore, considering his status, constitutional position and the powers enjoyed by him, he must be a non-political person with unbiased views on Indian politics.
Therefore, the idea of UPA in choosing a rank politician that too the present Indian finance minister does not augur or go down well and not befitting with the stature of the Indian President. On the other hand, the idea of choosing a non-political person such as Abdul Kalam by TMC and SP is to be welcomed for a healthy democracy in India.
While UPA allies are dissenting, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms Jayalalitha's meeting with Mr.Advani, the leader of BJP also assumes significance and with a significant vote bank with them, they may deviate from the policy of UPA in choosing Pranab Mukerji as the presidential candidate and may support TMC and SP or choose their own presidential candidate.
In choosing Pranab Mukerji, ignoring alternate choices, it seems that the UPA wants to test its bench strength for the forthcoming parliament elections in the year 2014.Besides, UPA also wants to have a smooth-sailing for all its future economic reforms and legislations for which it desires to have a more amenable president.BJP is also not lagging behind. After meeting Ms.Jayalalitha, BJP is toying with the idea of proposing Sangma as their Presidential candidate.
However, though UPA may have a tilt in votes, it may not have a smooth-sailing in the race for electing a new president, since her own allies TMC and powerful SP are thinking otherwise. It is an irony, both the ruling UPA and the opposition parties headed by NDA are not able to evolve a consensus in electing the President. On the other hand, party politics has come to the fore and both the ruling and opposition parties are becoming opportunistic to test their real muzzle power and converting the Presidential election virtually as a dress rehearsal for the 2014 General election!
